Internet Safety- A Post for Parents
Internet Safety
With the rise in technology and the access to it, it is of vital importance to talk and learn about internet safety. Laptops, cellphones and tablets allow for students to have the internet at their fingertips wherever they go! Your wonderful children are still learning to navigate the internet and the world around it, but we are here to help navigate and assist them in their discovery. By teaching and practicing internet safety, children can be less susceptible to fall victim to an internet scam or something potentially worse.
Students are growing up in the age of technology, and due to this they will face their share of hurdles along the way. Many of these hurdles students face, can be prevented or talked about and their hurdles will shrink and seem more passable. Firstly, online bullying or harassment is prevalent for younger generations now. Spend one day in a school and you'll hear "did you see what she posted", "he liked her picture", and a string of other dramatics focused on social media. It is easy to fall victim to online bullying or harassment, so we all need to be on the same page and help students to navigate this sticky part of their life.
To promote internet safety and encourage safe streaming, it is important to be open with your child/student and show an interest in what they are doing on the computer. Whether it be an online video game or something for school, it is important to check in periodically to make sure they are staying on task, not getting into trouble online, and saying away from the dangers that the online world provides. Teach your child about the dangers that come from the internet, and show them how NOT to respond when getting an anonymous message. Unfortunately, the world we live in has unspeakable dangers, and being honest with your child and educating them on the possibilities of danger and harm from the internet is important for their health and safety.
